Things to do in Palm Springs in July

Palm Springs in July may be hot but the savings and deals may be even hotter. The temperature can and will be in the triple digits but the locals are used to it and do things a little differently in the summer months. Learn the tricks to escape the heat and still enjoy a summer vacation. Start by planning outings for early morning and evening hours and save other, more relaxing activities for the midday rising temperatures.

Fourth of July
July starts out with one of the best holidays there is and no city would be complete without a celebration. Palm Springs hosts the All American 4th of July at the Palm Springs Stadium for a baseball game at 6 p.m. followed by a fireworks show at 8 p.m. Palm Desert also hosts their festivities at the Civic Center Park. Join them at 7:30 for a free concert and fireworks at 9 p.m. The city always puts on a patriotic celebration and great pyro displays. So join them in wishing America a Happy Birthday.

Palm Springs Resorts
Since July isn’t Palm Springs’ hottest tourist season, it’s the hottest season for savings on hotels. Book a luxury resort for less and take advantage of all the amenities. A resort is a great place to be during the hot hours of the day. Relax in a luxurious room, go for a swim in the pool, hit the gym, or go for a spa treatment.

  • Riviera Resort and Spa offers a luxurious stay for desert vacationers.
  • 7 Springs Inn & Suites is conveniently located near golfing, shopping, restaurants a casino and more, and all the accommodations at this Palm Springs hotel have their own kitchen.
  • Caliente Tropics is an upscale resort and spa with a fun Polynesian theme that even Elvis couldn’t resist. Relax by one of Palm Spring’s largest pools and enjoy a summer vacation.
  • Looking for gay-friendly hotels in Palm Springs? East Canyon Hotel & Spa is a fantastic choice this summer, and the Summer Splash Special rates start at just $99 plus a free night! With prices like they are in summer, it’s hard not to visit!

Aerial Tramway
The temperature 8,500 feet up in the air is much cooler, even in July. Getaway during a summer getaway and take the Aerial Tramway up to Mt. San Jacinto - this is one of the most popular things to do in Palm Springs. There are numerous things to do atop the mountain. Go in the middle of the day to escape the hot temperatures and enjoy the beautiful sights of the valley from the top and on the way up in the tramway. Grab lunch, take a hike, go sightseeing and shop around. Tours are a popular attraction on top of the mountain, so check them out while you’re there.

Early Adventures
Start the days off early and enjoy the beautiful area in cooler morning temperatures. Again, tours are a popular way to experience all the natural beauty of the area. Take a tour like the ones offered on Desert Adventures Eco-Tours. They offer early morning and late evening tours with temperature controlled vehicles and open top vehicles depending on the time of day and place. An early morning hike in the Indian Canyons is perfect for cool temperatures and the right amount of light to view the beautiful surroundings.

Living Zoo
Another adventure to tackle early in the day but is well worth it. The animals think much like we do and do most of their activities when the weather is tolerable. In the mid day they are usually hibernating and sleeping so come when they’re lively and happy in cool temperatures. The zoo aims at keeping the Colorado Desert in its natural state and fosters the plants and animals to preserve a portion nature while creating an educational experience for visitors. Take the tramway all around the park to make it an even better experience. Hop on and hop off whenever it goes by and this trip will be fun, quick and full of wonderful sights. Don’t forget the camera or the sunscreen.

El Paseo
El Paseo is a shopping district with an indoor/outdoor mix of options for visitors of all kinds. Known for its variety of shops, restaurants, galleries and entertainment, the district is a fun and easy way to spend a day when it’s hot. Get in the stores and explore and then catch a ride back to the car from the free car service in a golf cart style car courtesy of El Paseo.
